Reflexology is a calming, restorative therapy that works on specific points on the feet to support your whole body — physically, emotionally and energetically. Reflexology maps the body onto the feet, and reflex points are stimulated to help ease tension in the different parts of the body. This aims to regulate the nervous system and bring you back into balance.
It’s especially supportive if you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed or disconnected from your body. Reflexology offers space to slow down, feel safe in your body again, and gently reset. Each session is responsive to your energy, your body, and your capacity on the day — whether you need calming support, emotional grounding, or simply time to yourself.
If it’s your first session with me, there’ll be a short form to complete, followed by a health and wellbeing consultation to discuss your needs and reasons for coming.
If it’s a follow up session, we have a short catch up on how you’re feeling and any changes you’ve had.
Before we start the treatment, you’ll be settled onto a massage couch (for reflexology or facial massage) or chair (for Indian Head Massage).
My sessions are shaped by how you’re feeling that day, so every session is different. I’ll adjust my pressure, techniques or focus of the session to meet you where you are.
You can choose to have music playing or have the room quiet. We can chat through the session if that’s more comfortable, be quiet throughout, or a combination of the two. Let me know if you have any specific sensory challenges (smells, sounds, materials, massage pressure) and I’ll try to accommodate where I can.
At the end of the session, we can discuss how you’re now feeling and any after care advice that’s appropriate.
Reflexology is a very individualised treatment which is tailored to you as a whole person, taking into account both physical and non-physical factors that might be affecting your wellbeing. Some people find it really works for them – some don’t. The best way to find out is to give it a go!
If you can, wear some loose trousers or trousers that can be rolled up to the knee, as I may do some work on your lower legs as well as your feet and ankles. Otherwise, your usual clothes are fine; you will only need to remove your shoes and socks.
After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very noticeable way. Most people note a sense of well-being and relaxation; however, sometimes people report feeling lethargic, nauseous or tearful, but this is usually transitory and might be part of what’s referred to as the ‘healing process’. If you do experience some noticeable changes let me know, as it helps to inform your next session and I can learn a little more about how you respond to treatment.
This is very individual and depends on why you’re coming. Some people like to have a session every few weeks as a way to help stay relaxed and manage stress, others might need more frequent sessions if they’re experiencing a lot of tension or stress. If you’re interested in further sessions, we can chat about what might suit you in your session. You can save some money if you buy a course of six sessions; you can find details of that on my Prices page.
If you have a verruca, you can cover it with a small plaster and I can work around the area. If you have multiple verrucas, it’s too difficult to avoid them so please wait until they have healed.
If you have athlete’s foot or a fungal nail infection, both which are highly contagious, I’d ask for you to wait until the conditions have passed before you come for a session.
If you have health insurance that covers Reflexology treatments, then yes. I am a member of the Association of Reflexologist and a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists, and am fully insured with Alan Boswell. Many of my clients are able to claim their sessions back.
